In the coming weeks, this website will refocus on the upcoming elections on the national, state and local levels. Stay tuned!

Obama Pushes to Make Illegals Legal
Friday, September 18th, 2009In the name of health care reform. From the Washington Times, Obama: Legalize illegals to get them health care
President Obama said this week that his health care plan won’t cover illegal immigrants, but argued that’s all the more reason to legalize them and ensure they eventually do get coverage.
(Emphasis mine)He also staked out a position that anyone in the country legally should be covered – a major break with the 1996 welfare reform bill, which limited most federal public assistance programs only to citizens and longtime immigrants.
“Even though I do not believe we can extend coverage to those who are here illegally, I also don’t simply believe we can simply ignore the fact that our immigration system is broken,” Mr. Obama said Wednesday evening in a speech to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute. “That’s why I strongly support making sure folks who are here legally have access to affordable, quality health insurance under this plan, just like everybody else.
Mr. Obama added, “If anything, this debate underscores the necessity of passing comprehensive immigration reform and resolving the issue of 12 million undocumented people living and working in this country once and for all.”

Thursday, September 10th, 2009200 Come To Hear Rep. Visclosky
Tuesday, August 4th, 2009Over 200 people gathered at Chesterton, IN’s, Westchester Library Service Center at 6:30 p.m. Monday, August 3, 2009 to hear Representative Peter Visclosky speak on clean energy and health care reform and participate in an open question and answer session. It was sponsored by the Democratic Alliance of Northwest Indiana. Approximately 15 members of MoveOn.org were present and involved in running the event. About half of those present were allowed in because of space constraints.

Prior to the event, we were told that people could submit questions on index cards, and some would be chosen for Rep. Visclosky to answer. That did not occur. Rep. Visclosky chose to answer questions by calling on members of the audience by raised hands.
Remarkably, the meeting began with the co-chairman of the Alliance, Don Briggs, referring repeatedly to the peaceful and respectful group of 90 people in the room as “tea baggers,” a sexually pejorative term coined by media for people who choose to question and protest the rapid expansion of federal government and its fiscal irresponsibility. Mr. Briggs relayed the rules of the meeting regarding disruptions by holding up a poster entitled “Astroturf” that contained a list of actions that have been taken in the past by groups of ringers bussed in to disrupt meetings.
